The 2019 Rhondda Arts Festival (RAFT) opens next weekend with a month long series of arts events across the regions, as organisers reveal a trio of additional events to add to their high profile roster.
Blackadder & Time Team’s Sir Tony Robinson joins Wicked star Kerry Ellis and award winning comedian & actor Omid Djalili in headlining the festival’s second year, which runs from June 6 to July 13 at venues including Treorchy’s iconic Park & Dare Theatre, the beautiful St Peter’s Church, Pentre; Penrhys amphitheatre and more.
In addition to Sir Tony’s appearance on Monday June 10, two additional major events just announced are a C-RAFT (see what they did there) Beer & Gin Festival at Treorchy Oval, and a large scale Family Fun Day at Treorchy Comprehensive featuring children’s entertainment, inflatables, book talks and a host of arts & craft activities.

The full RAFT schedule includes A Night at the Proms with Rhondda born Welsh Proms Director Owain Arwel Hughes CBE, outdoor performances of Romeo & Juliet, an 18th century dragon exhibit on loan from the British Museum, London, both indoor & outdoor movie screenings, plus two D-Day 75 events featuring a visiting orchestra from RCT’s twin town of Ravensburg, Germany which offers FREE tickets for both serving & former members of the Armed Forces and for children.

RAFT Chair, Chris Bryant MP stated “We’re thrilled to be able to offer this hugely enhanced, month long festival to both local residents and visitors to the Rhondda this June, and are delighted to once again be featuring celebrity performers of the calibre of Tony Robinson, Kerry Ellis & Omid Djalili alongside a host of local Rhondda performers & artists. Whether you’re interested in music, comedy, film screenings, literature, art – or craft beer & gin – there’s truly something for everyone at RAFT 2019”. The 2019 RAFT Festival takes place in Rhondda from June 6 through to July 13, with the central festival weekend being held on June 28 to 30.
