New Jersey Nights landed in the iconic New theatre Cardiff last night and boy what a landing it was! This hit show is direct from the USA and drove us back to the iconic 1950s and 60s to the groovy 1980s.
Frankie Valli shot to fame in 1962 as the lead singer of the Four Seasons and went on to have incredible national and international success. The band were originally called the Four Lovers but evolved into the Four Seasons with Frankie Valli as the lead singer. It’s also worth noting, that they were one of only two American bands, to enjoy major chart success before, during and after the world phenomenon that was the British Invasion. They have become one of the world’s best selling-bands, selling over 100 million records worldwide.
The tribute band performed all of their greatest hits, including “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Rag Doll,” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” along with a rendition of “Grease is the word,” which had the audience up on their feet busting the dance moves!
The production was superbly orchestrated and had great engagement from the audience. The use of vibrant lighting and a spectacular live band, really made the show a memorable experience. The accompanying dancers showcased their incredible dancing skills and really added to the show’s authenticity, as the swinging 60s was a glamorous era, that brought us some of the worlds biggest stars. One of the dancers even performed the splits!
The leading cast played wonderful tribute to Frankie Valerie and the Four Season’s iconic music and left audiences members astounded with their silky smooth voices. There were moments of laughter, tears and excitement. Especially tears when Frankie Valli sang the classic captivating song “Fallen Angel,” which pays beautiful tribute to Valli’s daughters, that he lost within six months of each other. The production shows how Valli’s sheer passion for music and determination to remain successful, got him through these dark times. This was a wonderful celebration of their much loved music and an exciting tribute to Frankie Valli and the four seasons, that took us on a magical journey, of one of the world’s most loved bands.
