The Swansea PRIDE 2019 main event occurred on Saturday the 4th of May and was an incredible celebration of all things LGBTQ+. This wonderful diverse occasion, brought the whole community together as one!
The event was attended by thousands of people including the leader of Swansea Council Rob Stewart. The parade started at approximately 11am and commenced from Swansea’s famous Wine street and finished at the National Water Front museum, where the main event was being held.
It was fantastic to see mainstream organisations like Sainsbury’s and the Co-op, joining the parade celebrations and showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community.
The main event was a huge success and showcased incredible local and national talent including the sensational Cally Rhodes , Who recently was the supporting act of 2014 X factor winner Ben Haenow. Also performing was Russell Jones, who was a 2017 X factor contestant and first shot to fame with his rendition of ‘I WANNA BE LIKE YOU’, from the iconic Disney movie the Jungle Book. Petite Panto’s very own resident panto dame/drag Queen Mamma G was wonderful and really entertained us all, with her hilarious act and fun filled vibes. The incredibly talented Charlie Brooks who played the iconic character of ‘Janine Butcher’ in hit BBC one soap ‘Eastenders‘, was also in attendance and made a fabulous host. The winners of the 2019 Swansea Pride hits the dance floor competition Keith Millward and Peter Kingsbury, formed an electric atmosphere with their sensational performance.
The Swansea and Neath Port Talbot South Wales Police team showed incredible support for the event and have to be highly commended for their professionalism and sheer passion for the LGBTQ+ community.
The sensational Shellyann who recently won BBC one hit show All Together now was sensational and really blew the crowd away! She has announced a UK tour! Don’t miss her!
‘Nia Jermin‘ who is the Vice-Chair of the Swansea PRIDE committee and also one of the directors of Jermin Productions along with her brother Mark Jermin, who organised all of the acts and other Swansea PRIDE events said that, she was hugely passionate about supporting local talent and was honoured to have played a key role in organising this important event.
Mary’s Cardiff took over walkabout Swansea and what an incredible event it was! Gordon Tovey and his whole team did an incredible job and really made waves on the Swansea LGBTQ+ scene. Congratulations on such an exciting and wonderful after party. A special thank you also to Jay Page and Tom Edwards for their incredible work in this event too.
The whole day was an incredible success and really showed how much love and support there is for the LGBTQ+ community. It was magnificient to see this diverse group of acts, showcasing such wonderful talent, with the likes of the outrageous ‘Pixie Perez’, BBC casualty’s very own ‘Amanda Henderson‘, the heart and soul of Swansea herself Ruby Slippers, the iconic DR Bev, the wonderful Kara-Von-Site, the super cool Minnie Cooper and the hip Jolene Dover, (just to name a few), entertaining the crowd with their sensational talents.
Brett Salway who attended the event in a press capacity made this statement. ” I was honoured to have been a part of such a momentous occasion and would like to personally thank the Swansea Pride committee, for inviting me to the event and organising such an incredible PRIDE.
