SWANSEA PRIDE 2019 GUIDE
The main Swansea pride event returns on May the 4th and coincides with ‘May The 4th be with you day’. We here at Valley Times, sincerely hope the force is with us all at this sensational celebration of all things LGBT+. Being such a huge LGBT+ advocate myself and being involved with Swansea pride, for the first time on a professional capacity. The celebrations actually start on Wednesday the 17th of April with the ‘Arts festival day’ which is a drop-in family art workshop, in preparation for the Swansea Pride Celebrations.
Wednesday the 1st of May at the Princess Royal theatre in Port talbot, at 7PM. This will be a youth production called ‘Up Next with Pride’, which will showcase a variety of talents, including a cast of choirs, dance schools, gymnasts and singers whom will explode on to the stage with colossal courage, inspiring confidence and prominent talent. Don’t miss it!
Another exciting event is ‘Swansea Pride hits the dance floor!’ Which will feature amateur same gender couples, partner up with each other, on the dance floor of the Brangwyn Hall. Which will take inspiration from the iconic BBC One show, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. This promises to be a superb evening, filled with the joys of dance.
For all you ‘Ru Paul’s Drag Race’ fans out there, then this is a must see event for you! Featuring the sensational Farrah Moan, who recently appeared on season 4 of ‘All Stars Drag Race’. Farrah Moan will host a pre pride launch party on Friday the 3rd of May, at ‘Swansea Venue Fiction and Vinyl’. In September 2018, Farrah performed as a backdrop dancer for Christine Aguilera’s opening ceremony’s spring 2019 collection. Just spectacular! Tickets are on sale now, get them fast as they won’t hand around!
The main event is also looking extremely exciting and we personally can’t wait to attend. It all kicks off with a colourful carnival style parade and will showcase a diverse selection of equalities and genders to the people of Swansea. Carnival style floats and marching bands will take to the streets of Swansea and will be a family friendly and exciting display. Everyone is welcome and if you’d like to register your place in the Pride Parade, The please log on to: http://www.swanseapride.co.uk/
The celebrations will continue well into the afternoon, thanks to the wonderful support from the National Waterfront Museum. The Museum site will have a wide variety of stalls and offer activities for people of all ages. There will be a host of events occurring, which will include, live music, guest speakers, tribute acts, celebrities, Drag Queens, The Wow Dolls, the crowning of a Pride King, and face painting amongst the existing Swansea Street Food and Drink festival to create a wonderful atmosphere continuing the ethos of Pride. The main event on the Saturday is a completely free event but donations are welcome! Decorations are being donated by the wonderful Mr Flag who has been an incredible support network in the past 2 years of Pride Swansea.space, The Grand Theatre are also showing brilliant support Thanks to the Ian McKellen fund in allowing Performance Space for Mess Up the Mess to showcase some of their work including extracts from Humanequin, a trans gender play and the Pride Cymru Icons and Allies exhibition arrives at the National Waterfront Museum from 4th May.
Also in attendance are Swansea sound and The Wave radio platforms, who are great supporters of Swansea pride. They will be hosting a variety of events including, competitions, live music and will be broadcasting live from Swansea Pride. There will also be an ongoing presence of Pride within the City Centre with businesses and supporting shops, The Quadrant, and cafes and organisations joining the PRIDE Celebrations by decorating their windows and displays and putting on their own Pride days. Some discounts may be offered for Pride guests.
We envisage this growing annual celebration to benefit every South Wales business and organisation in bringing more and more people into the city centre to engage and celebrate Pride and also to unite businesses and organisations in being super transparent and open in supporting Equality and Diversity. We are inviting you and your business to join this years rainbow movement, to show your support, and to engage with our community in supporting any existing staff, friends, family or colleagues of the LGBT+ Community.
