HAIR THE MUSICAL 50TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR REVIEW

This exuberant award winning show landed in full glory last night, at the iconic ‘New Theatre’ Cardiff and what a hair raising experience it was! It was the winner of the ‘WhatsOnStage’ 2018 award.

Featuring an all star cast, including reality TV star ‘Jake Quickenden’ who plays the role of ‘Berger’, also the sensationally talented ‘Daisy Wood-Davis’ who stars as ‘Sheila’ and has featured in many different hit TV shows and West End productions, along with the inspirational X factor finalist ‘Marcus Collins’ who plays the role of ‘Hud’.

JAKE QUICKENDEN ANS DAISY WOOD-DAVIS

Set in New York’s East village during the swinging 60s, the show takes you back to the ‘Age Of Aquarius’ and heavily focuses on love, peace and solidarity. Concentrating on a group of hippie ‘tribe’ youngsters, with a huge passion to liberate the world, in a time of war and huge social unrest. Highlighting the wide use of illegal drugs back then and iconic hippie morals, it took me on a magical and inspiring journey of pure tranquility.

JAKE QUICKDEN AND MARCUS COLLINS

It has powerful messages of acceptance and free rein. ‘Jake Quickenden’ gave a strong and powerful performance and showed a more flamboyant side to his character, which the audience loved! ‘Daisy Wood-Davis’ yet again showcased her sensational acting and singing skills and really had the audience heavily engaged. The incredibly talented ‘Marcus Collins’ delivered a strong and authoritative performance and again showcased his incredible vocal skills.

AIESHA PEASE

The astonishingly vocally accomplished ‘Aiesha Pease’, played the part of ‘Dionne’ and was incredible. I’m sure her voice would reach the depths of ‘Cardiff Bay’! ‘Aiesha’ has such a powerful voice and in my opinion, she has one of the best vocal ranges I’ve ever heard!

The cast is completed by Alison Arnopp as ‘Jeanie’, Bradley Judge as ‘Woof’, David Heywood as ‘Jackson’ (Flute, Saxophone, Snare), Kelly Sweeney as ‘Crissy’, Laura Sillett as ‘Helena’ (Piccolo, Saxophone, Trumpet), Louise Francis as ‘Raven’, Natalie Green as ‘Cassie’, Paul Wilkins as ‘Claude’, Spin as ‘Tajh’ and Tom Bales as ‘Glowy/Margaret Mead’, who all gave incredible performances in their roles.

It features songs from its Grammy award-winning score, including ‘Aquarius’, ‘Good Morning Starshine’ and ‘Let the Sunshine In’.

I’d like to commend the whole cast for such a superb show. The show really did leave me feeling liberated, in these highly uncertain times and really got me engaging with my hippie vibes!

Catch this highly energetic and colourful show, at the ‘New Theatre’ Cardiff until Saturday 20 April 2019. I’m sure you’ll come away feeling highly liberated yourself!
