I visited Cardiff’s newest Portuguese restaurant and it seemed somewhat familiar. This is because Cardiff has enjoyed the family run Madeira restaurant for many years already but in a different location. This is a newly opened second restaurant of the same name. From the moment you walk in you feel like you have stepped into something truly special.

The combination of rustic wood and glass bring old and new together with a beautiful finish. The well-formed waiting area is immediately welcoming and is perfect to have a pre dinner cocktail or glass of wine. The traditional Portuguese dancers wall art added to the welcoming and traditional feel but with a contemporary twist. The restaurant is further enhanced with its elegantly displayed wine wall. The continuation of this theme throughout further enhances the authentic ambience. I was further impressed with the mix of circular and square tables, which adds to the intimacy. The wooden beams are a real statement piece and blend wonderfully with the elegant decor.

The menu is superb promoting real authentic Portuguese food, which is cooked in their open kitchen. I chose the traditional chicken, beef and pork espetada, which is served on a skewer, then hung from the suspended ceiling hook and can be infused with garlic butter if chosen. To continue with the Portuguese experience, I had the traditional Mateus rose, which is a medium-sweet frizz-ante rosé wine produced in Portugal.

I was delighted with all aspects of the Madeira restaurant’s newest venture and would highly recommend this restaurant, to anyone that is looking for a truly unique Portuguese dining experience. Below is the restaurant address and link to their Facebook page.
